The GSS (Government Secondary School) n Cameroon is a public general secondary school in the English-spea king sub-system. The equivalent in the French-speaking sub-system is Collège d'Enseignement Secondaire (CES). It comprises only lower secondary classes. For the English-speaking sub-system, the teaching levels are : Form 1, Form 2, Form 3, Form 4 and Form 5. For the French-speaking sub-system, the classes are sixième, cinquième, quatrième and troisième.

The BEPC (Brevet d'Etudes du Premier Cycle) is the exam that marks the end of the first cycle of French-speaking secondary education (4 years, if the pupil does not fail). In the English-speaking sub-system, the examination is the GCE OL (General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level).
