Nursery education in Cameroon is an educational cycle comprising the following classes:
- For the French-speaking sub-system: Petite section, Grande section.
- For the English-speaking sub-system: Nursery One, Nursery Two.
In principle, the legal age of entry to nursery school in Cameroon is 4 years and the course of study lasts 2 years.
On the ground, however, most nursery schools have four sections:
- pre-nursery,
- nursery section,
- middle section
- and senior section.
Nursery education aims to awaken children's physical, social-emotional and intellectual potential. It prepares children for entry into primary school.
Although no diploma is awarded at this level of study, the report book is nevertheless an indication of admission to the Section d'Initiation au Langage (SIL) for French speaking sub-system or Class 1 for English speaking sub-system.
