Competitive examinations organised by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) are held regularly with the aim of recruiting and training young Cameroonians of both sexes in the army professions. Various training courses are offered in the National Gendarmerie, Army, Air Force and Navy.

Initial training for the various army corps mentioned above takes place in the Recruit Training Centres. Each recruit training centre comprises a Command and Services Company and Training Companies.

In addition to the Recruit Training Centres, there are :

• the Cadet Training Centre (CIESCO)
• the Logistics School (ELOG)
• the Joint Military School (EMIA)
• Higher Military Education
• the Higher Military Education Centre
