On Tuesday 14 May 2024, the written tests for the official school examinations got under way, with the concours d'entrée en 6e and concours d'entrée en 1ère année examinations for the French-speaking sub-system and the Common Entrance examination for the English-speaking sub-system.

Throughout the country, pupils at the end of their primary education braved the various written tests that were set in the various composition centres. Hundreds of thousands of them (more than 230,000) are knocking on the doors of secondary school this year.

The entrance exam to 6th or 1st year is an official competition held in all public and private general and technical secondary schools that have received applications.

The tests that primary school pupils took today were, for the French-speaking sub-system :

  • Reading comprehension test
  • Dictation and Questions test
  • Problem test
  • General knowledge test
  • Quick Maths test

After the composition, students and their parents await the results, which will be announced shortly. Candidates who are unsuccessful in this official competition will be able to take a second competitive entrance exam to 6th form in private secondary schools, if they do not wish to repeat the CM2 class.
